The project was aimed to be concepts for a 3D cell shaded anime styled animation.
I wanted the style to be reminiscent of Akira and old Anime while still maintaining a modern touch with unique textures and sci-fi elements.
Artistically speaking, I think this is where Sanakan shines and shows a deeper meaning behind the intricacies
Even if it's in 3D, I want to show how the character can be deformed to create super interesting action poses. Perfect for dynamic battles in the world of Blame!
Early design sketches of the Sanakan. I was toying with the idea of having clothes to conceal the intricate design and give rest for the eyes.
However since the character is almost a single value, I thought it wasn't needed.
I wasn't happy with the back design and weapon for a while, until I began sketching it out.
What surprised me what how I decided to go for a more hard surface look rather than the organic sci-fi.
I think this gives better contrast for the transformation
I decided to go out of my comfort-zone and do a stylized character design. I had a clear vision of the style, medium and what kind of production this would serve.
This concept art will be for a 3D cell-shaded anime styled animation.
I decided to exaggerate some of the movement to show interesting ways of deforming the character for cool action scenes.
